England: F lon - nth England: F edi - nwg England: A lvp - yor A fairly popular English opening that indicates trust of France. France: A par - bur France: A mar S A par - bur France: F bre - mao The Maginot opening. A flexible opening that shows an alliance with England. It seems very anti-German to me, especially with an apparently cooperative England. I will probably hear from him about Munich. It is possible for France to come out of this opening with three more supply centers. It's unlikely, but two is almost certain. Germany: A ber - kie Germany: A mun - ruh Germany: F kie - hol This opening is second only to kie-den in popularity for Germany. Turkey: A con - bul Turkey: A smy - arm Turkey: F ank - bla (*bounce*) Very anti-Russian. Probably no second neutral with this, but will keep Russia out of Rumania and has a legitimate shot at capturing Sevastapol in the fall. Evaluation: England and France seem to be off to a good partnership, but Germany is ready to defened against them. He's under no pressure from Russia, either, and shouldn't be any time soon if he's giving up on Scandinavia. Russia's problems are in the south, where Turkey has opened strongly against him, but I really need one of them to weaken Austria for me or I don't have much chance of progressing very far. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1901 Fall Movement: Austria: A tri S F adr - ven (*cut*) Austria: A ser S Turkey A bul - rum Austria: F adr - ven (*bounce*) This is exactly what I expected, and the best thing he could do from this position. England and France have laid their cards on the table against Germany, but with two builds he'll be a tough nut to crack. After building Austria's probably got the upper hand on me and I am unlikely to get any help from Russia or Turkey, given how tied up with each other they are. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1902 Winter Adjustment: Austria builds an army in Budapest England builds a fleet in London France builds an army in Paris France builds a fleet in Brest Germany builds an army in Kiel Germany builds an army in Munich Italy builds a fleet in Naples Russia builds an army in Moscow Turkey builds a fleet in Constantinople England's build is pretty straightforward. France, thankfully, builds only in the north. Germany's making a strong western front. It might be hard for France to hold him off without violating the Channel DMZ. Russia's army-Moscow is for fighting turkey, who's new fleet makes sense in definitively taking the Black Sea, but I'm nervous about what he'll do with it after that. I was certain Austria would build in Vienna and triple team Tyrolia (and then Venice) but he must be nervous about Galicia and Rumania. That's lucky for me. It buys me some time. Italy always builds a fleet in Naples and I couldn't see how an army in Rome would actually help me so I did it. I feel much better that there isn't an army in Vienna. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1902 Spring Movement: Austria: A tri - adr - apu (*no convoy, dislodged*) Austria: A ser - tri (*bounce*) Austria: F adr S A tri - apu (*void*) Austria: A bud S Turkey A rum (*cut*) He must have meant to order "adr c tri-apu". Russia just took a bad blow and with his missed order he's not likely to recover. I think that puts the lead in Turkey's hands. I have a temporary advantage over Austria, but he has several ways to kick me back out and even deny me Greece at the same time. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1902 Fall Movement: Austria: A vie S F adr - tri Austria: A ser S F adr - tri Austria: F adr - tri Austria: A bud S Turkey A rum (*cut*) He came up with the good idea, which was to attack with the fleet, so I couldn't cut its support. That's pretty unusual. I think I have to make a deal with Turkey to eliminate Austria. The question is, what then? It's hard to attack France because I can't move on him without giving him about a year's warning time. But Turkey will be a tough fight, especially as he grows. Russia appears to be rolling over for him and he has Austria as a willing partner. I'm not sure if England and France are still solid allies but Germany needs them to be fighting each other. He's pretty strong, but without any allies he's in trouble. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1903 Winter Adjustment: England builds a fleet in London Germany builds a fleet in Kiel Italy builds an army in Rome Turkey builds an army in Constantinople I built an army because a fleet doesn't help me against Austria and I have no reason to antagonize France, just yet. No matter how clever he is, Germany can't hold off England and France for much longer (he could go out this year). And then there's just that much more pressure on Turkey. I should start discussing a draw with France and England (and maybe Russia, too). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Results of 1906 Winter Adjustment: England builds an army in London Germany removes the fleet in The Gulf of Bothnia Italy builds a fleet in Rome Austria: defaults, removing the army in Albania I fully expect the English army to somewhere safe and not threaten France. In the north he simply doesn't have the presence or room to stop England and France from taking his centers. A more bold, but riskier attempt at protecting Moscow would have been to order Ukraine to Warsaw. That's something Germany would have thought of, but Turkey didn't. The fleet in Albania disbands, because it had nowhere to retreat to. Moscow retreats to Sevastapol. Evaluation: Germany's out this year, and Turkey's under the gun now. I broadcast that I had set consent to "now" and asked who else had. Everybody but Turkey responded. I feared that he had abandoned. But then right after the deadline, when the results came through, Turkey broadcast that he had been set to "now" all along and that someone else must have been lying to us. I don't believe that for a second, but it tells me that Turkey is trying to sow some discord among us. That's really the only way he has a chance of surviving at this point. So good for him.
